Valentine’s Day!
The day of love, chocolate, flowers, and Eye Care?
That’s right! As the Global Optometry Student community, we’re excited to share with you the fascinating story of how our eyes play a crucial role in finding love.
The journey begins when someone catches our eye, literally.
Our eyes scan the room, and suddenly, we spot that special someone.
But have you ever wondered what happens next?
Let’s take a journey through the Optics of Love.
From the moment Cupid’s arrow strikes, and you lock eyes with that special someone, the optical adventure begins.
When the light from that special someone enters your eyes, it’s like a party in your peepers.
The light passes through the transparent window of the eye, the cornea.
From there, it passes through a “bouncer” controlling how much of the light can enter, the pupil. Next, the light travels through the lens, which focuses it onto the retina. And from the retina, it’s converted into electrical signals, which are like secret messages sent to the brain.
These secret messages travel along the optic nerve for processing in the visual cortex, the brain’s very own love lab! Here, the brain analyzes the signals, and suddenly, you’re struck by the arrow of love or at least, you’re really interested in getting to know this person better.
But that’s not all, the brain’s emotional centers take over, stirring the release of important chemicals like dopamine and oxytocin.
These chemicals create feelings of pleasure, attachment, and excitement, making you feel like you’re walking on clouds.
Love, in its entirety, is a beautiful emotion that we’re lucky to experience, and it all starts with our eyes.
As the Global Optometry Student community, we have an overriding duty and passion to help preserve this precious gift.
Through regular eye exams, simple tasks such as the 20-20-20 rule or the use of protective gear, and a healthy lifestyle, we can ensure that the human eye remains healthy and strong.
By prioritizing our eye health, we can continue to cherish precious moments such as the lingering gaze across a crowded room, the soft, intimate look shared over a candlelit dinner for years to come.
Happy Valentine’s Day from OPTOGLOBE
We hope you’ve enjoyed this journey through the Optics of Love.
Remember, taking care of your eyes is essential to preserving the gift of sight and experiencing the beauty of love.
So now we’ll ask, Is love really blind?
